Get ready to "Bop to the Top"!     (This class has been filled)

EAST LATE | Ages 12-18 | Thursdays, 7 to 8:45p
Our Spring Classes begin Thursday, March 2nd

Drama II - The DiCaprio Award

Specialty II - Big Fish: Tell Your Story
(ages 12 - 18)   Daniel Verschelden

Based on the celebrated novel and Tim Burton's epic movie, Big Fish tells the story of Edward Bloom, a traveling salesman who lives life to the fullest. His stories are larger than life, but are they too good to be true? Join us as we explore the music of Big Fish and the stories the music creates. Learn how to access your emotion and your passion to tell a character's story.  Take what you learn and be the hero of your own story!     (This class has been filled)

Voice II - Sing in the Rain: A Tribute to Debbie Reynolds
(ages 12 - 18)   Ashton Dixon

What is known as one of the greatest movie musicals ever made, Singing In the Rain highlights a high-spirited depiction of Hollywood in the 1920s. With comedy and beautiful music the movie was destined for great success! Not to mention, the outstanding Debbie Reynolds who gave a breathtaking performance with the lead role as Kathy Selden. Join us in strengthening your musical theatre skills while paying tribute to the late great Debbie Reynolds.

Drama II - Juliet the Jet meets Romeo the Shark
(ages 12 - 18)   Jana Latchaw

What did kids in the 1590's and the 1950's have in common with you? A lot.  How do we know? Shakespeare and Laurents/Bernstein/Sondheim illustrated it for us.  400 years ago The Bard wrote Romeo and Juliet, the story about peer pressure, prejudice, pride, and love.  In 1957, Shakespeare's play inspired West Side Story.  In this class, you will discover the connection of the characters in both shows.

TWO CLASSES ONLY: Saturday, April 1 and 8, 8am to 12pm

What's So Funny? - Comedy in Film
(ages 14 - 18)   Rick Mundy

As a great actor is rumored to have said on his deathbed, "Dying is easy. Comedy is hard." What's so difficult about making people laugh? For the class clown, maybe nothing. But for young actors, the art of allowing an audience to find humor in what, for the character, is a painful or difficult moment is very demanding. It requires commitment to character, emotional transparency, and superb timing. It's a delicate balance that is difficult to achieve. Fortunately for aspiring actors, the masterful performances of many comedy greats have been captured for us to learn from. In this class, students will view and discuss great moments in film and television comedy to learn to identify styles of comedy, (satire, parody, farce, etc.) and the elements of comedy (surprise, incongruity, etc.) as a foundation for learning how to perform comedy. And apart from all that, it'll be a great opportunity to share a laugh. The Master Class will be taught by Dr. Rick Mundy, a Kansas City-based acting teacher/director with advanced degrees in theatre and film from Regent University and KU.     (This class has been filled)

* designates a core CYT class which is also a great beginning class for the new CYT student
