SOUTH EARLY | Ages 5-12 | Mondays, 5 to 6:45p
Our Spring Classes begin Monday, February 27th

Our Gang - Adventures with Trolls
(ages 5 - 7)   Ellen Juarez

Join Poppy and Branch to bring joy and happiness to all! We will learn singing, dancing and acting techniques that will make even the grumpiest Bergen smile! Come celebrate along with us as we learn to shine as brightly as the Trolls!

Musical Theatre I - Let's Move It, Move It!
(ages 8 - 12)   Shana McCoy

Our favorite animals are escaping from the zoo! Come join us as we help Alex, Marty, Gloria, Melman, and the Penguins as we get them to their new home, Madagascar. In this class we will explore the world of musical theatre while learning skills to make us better actors, singers, and dancers. Come and have a blast as we learn to "move it, move it!"     (This class has been filled)

Voice I - Sing with a Sinister Smile
(ages 8 - 12)   Daniel Verschelden

Just because you're bad, doesn't mean you can't sing well.  Just because you're evil, doesn't mean you can't carry a tune.  Bring your wicked talent, tap into your dark side, and sing through a snarl.  Together we'll chide, harass and plot our way through villainous songs that will put any hero on edge.

Drama I - Forget About Props, Costumes and Sets!
(ages 8 - 12)   Karen Slagle

Did you know that before television, people used to sit around their radios and listen to dramas and comedies? The radio actors could use only their voices to tell stories. That's Reader's Theatre! It is a style of theatre in which you will learn how to use your voice to make the words of a script create images in the minds of your audience.  So leave your sets, props and costumes at home and come jump into an adventure of creative storytelling!

SOUTH LATE | Ages 12-18 | Mondays, 7 to 8:45p
Our Spring Classes begin Monday, February 27th

Invitation Only- Improv Team Rehearsal 6-9pm
(ages 12 - 18)   Andrew Milbourn

This class is reserved for the 2017 CYT Improv Team and the Invitees resulting from our Fall 2016 Auditions.  Good Luck to our CYT KC team as they prepare to return to San Diego to defend the Improvathon National title! Interested in Improv?  Like us on Facebook and watch our website for announcements regarding Improv Team performances, and 2018 CYT Improv Team auditions!

Specialty II - Big Fish: Tell Your Story
(ages 12 - 18)   Daniel Verschelden

Based on the celebrated novel and Tim Burton's epic movie, Big Fish tells the story of Edward Bloom, a traveling salesman who lives life to the fullest. His stories are larger than life, but are they too good to be true? Join us as we explore the music of Big Fish and the stories the music creates. Learn how to access your emotions and your passion to tell a character's story. Take what you learn and be the hero of your own story!

Musical Theatre II - Tiptoe Through the Tonys
(ages 12 - 18)   Shana McCoy

It’s the most wonderful time of the year. The best day ever! The Tony Awards! Starting in 1947 the people of Broadway have gathered together to honor the best and brightest in all areas of theatre. The Tony's give us at home an opportunity to take a glimpse into not only the past years productions, but those yet to come. In this class we will take a sing through the Tony’s history and learn what made the winners stand out. From The King and I, to A Chorus Line to Hamilton, we will be inspired by some old classics and some new!

TWO CLASSES ONLY: Saturday, April 1st and 8th, 8am to 12pm

What's So Funny? - Comedy in Film
(ages 14 - 18)   Rick Mundy

As a great actor is rumored to have said on his deathbed, "Dying is easy. Comedy is hard." What's so difficult about making people laugh? For the class clown, maybe nothing. But for young actors, the art of allowing an audience to find humor in what, for the character, is a painful or difficult moment is very demanding. It requires commitment to character, emotional transparency, and superb timing. It's a delicate balance that is difficult to achieve. Fortunately for aspiring actors, the masterful performances of many comedy greats have been captured for us to learn from. In this class, students will view and discuss great moments in film and television comedy to learn to identify styles of comedy, (satire, parody, farce, etc.) and the elements of comedy (surprise, incongruity, etc.) as a foundation for learning how to perform comedy. And apart from all that, it'll be a great opportunity to share a laugh. The Master Class will be taught by Dr. Rick Mundy, a Kansas City-based acting teacher/director with advanced degrees in theatre and film from Regent University and KU.     (This class has been filled)

* designates a core CYT class which is also a great beginning class for the new CYT student

Please Note:  All classes and teachers are subject to change.
