This movie is full of interesting and eccentric characters that follow their dreams and never give up. As Mr. Moon would say “Don’t let fear stop you from doing the things you love.”

Discover the basics of musical theater through the wonderful and timeless music of The Lion King! In addition to studying vocal performance techniques and warmups, we will also focus on what makes a good villain. What's So Funny? - Comedy in Film (ages 14 - 18)
As a great actor is rumored to have said on his deathbed, "Dying is easy. Comedy is hard."
What's so difficult about making people laugh? For the class clown, maybe nothing. But for young actors, the art of allowing an audience to find humor in what, for the character, is a painful or difficult moment is very demanding. It requires commitment to character, emotional transparency, and superb timing. It's a delicate balance that is difficult to achieve.
Fortunately for aspiring actors, the masterful performances of many comedy greats have been captured for us to learn from. In this class, students will view and discuss great moments in film and television comedy to learn to identify styles of comedy, (satire, parody, farce, etc.) and the elements of comedy (surprise, incongruity, etc.) as a foundation for learning how to perform comedy. And apart from all that, it'll be a great opportunity to share a laugh.
The Master Class will be taught by Dr. Rick Mundy, a Kansas City-based acting teacher/director with advanced degrees in theatre and film from Regent University and KU. (This class has been filled)
|* designates a core CYT class which is also a great beginning class for the new CYT student|
