Audition Guidelines
Students ages 8 and older enrolled in classes may audition for any area. Students need to prepare a one minute vocal audition. After the vocal presentation students will be taught a short dance routine as part of the audition process. If a student is cast in one area's show they are not eligible to audition for another area's show for that session.
Consideration for casting includes:
- Past behavior and attitude.
- Past performance in shows, camps and class.
- Restrictions expressed on application.
- Past participation by parents.
- Potential growth
Auditioning Tips
- Keep your song limited to one minute or less.
- No a cappella singing; bring sheet music or an accompaniment track without vocals
- Choose a show tune or a children's song.
- Do not sing a song from the show for which you are auditioning; this is considered poor theater etiquette.
- In most cases an upbeat song is best. Show energy and enthusiasm!
- Make sure your song is within your vocal range.
- No costumes, props or choreography
The directors want to see you at your best. - Practice your song in front of people until
you are comfortable enough to perform. - Confidence is key! If you are not a singer, that's okay!
Give the directors a show and win them over. - Directors want actors who will look comfortable on stage.
Be sure to smile and convey big energy to communicate your ability.
