Private Voice Lessons

CYT offers private voice lessons to interested students.

Alyssa Joy Couturier

Biography

Alyssa Couturier graduated in May 2004 from College of the Ozarks in Branson, Missouri. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Vocal Performance with a Theater minor. While at College of the Ozarks, she performed in numerous recitals, concerts, and musical productions. She has played the roles of Milly in "Seven Brides for Seven Brothers", Hodel in "Fiddler on the Roof", Cinerella in "Into the Woods", a storyteller and kangaroo in "Children of Eden", and Kathleen in "All I Really Need to Know I Learned in Kindergarten". After college, Alyssa traveled with "Wings of Morning", a music ministry team that travels all over the United States and oversees. While on "Wings", she had the opportunity to sing 2-3 concerts a week with five other singers. Alyssa is newly married and new to the Kansas City area. She is excited to be involved with the wonderful ministry of Christian Youth Theater.

The Approach

Travis draws from his extensive vocal training to customize One-on-One singing lessons too meet his students’ individual needs.  In the first lesson, students are guaranteed an immediate increase in range and power with the introduction of highly effective vocal techniques.  Starting in the second lesson, students bring in songs of their choice, and begin applying their own their newly acquired skills.  Travis has strong and extensive professional theatre background as well and can help build confidence in students wanting to prepare for auditions and stage performances.  Contact CYT for contact information and scheduling.

Fees

  • Fees for beginning students will be $20 per half hour lesson.
  • Fees for intermediate/advanced students will be $40 per 60 minute lesson.
  • Each student will be required to purchase their own music materials at the discretion of the voice teacher.
  • Note: All fees are subject to change. If there is a fee change, you will be given proper notification.
  • Each student needs to pay at the beginning of the month, for the whole month, to the teacher. If you need to make other arrangements, please feel free to discuss this with the teacher.

Philosophy of Teaching Statement

To educate individuals, of all ages, how to properly use and expand their vocal instrument to its fullest potentila in a fun and dynamic way.

Mediums to Reach Success

  • To teach proper use of the diaphragm, in order to imporve breathing technique.
  • To teach proper singing technique, using several different avenues.
  • To improve the vocal range of the singer by using specifically designed excercises.
  • To teach the importance of incorporating emotion into each song.
  • To teach basic music theory.

Requirements of each Student

  • Each student must participate in a recital once a year.
  • Each student is expected to practice expanding their voice and learn pieces at least 3-4 times per week.
  • Each student is expected to mentally study their music and research their pieces at least 1-2 times per week.
  • Each student will be required to log each practice session, in detail, into a designated notebook. The details will consist of what piece, how long, and what they learned or experienced.
  • Each student is required to be prepared and arrive on time to the lesson each week.

Beginning Students

Each lesson will be 30 minutes in length. The lesson will consist of 10 minutes of discussion and 20 minutes of actual singing time. This format will enable the student and the teacher to properly convey important information concerning the previous week's practice log and the following week's practice material.

Intermediate/Advanced Students

Each lesson will be 60 minutes in length. The lesson will consist of 15 minutes of discussion and 45 minutes of actual singing time. This format will enable the student and the teacher to properly convey important information concerning the previous week's practice log and the following week's practice material.
