Annie Kids Synopsis
This musical is based on the popular comic strip and adapted from the Tony Award-winning Best Musical. With equal measures of pluck and positivity, little orphan Annie charms everyone's hearts despite a next-to-nothing start in 1930s New York City. Annie is determined to find the parents who abandoned her years ago on the doorstep of an orphanage run by the cruel Miss Hannigan. Annie eventually foils Miss Hannigan's evil machinations, finding a new home and family in billionaire Oliver Warbucks, his personal secretary, Grace Farrell, and a lovable mutt named Sandy. The Orphan Ensemble are gritty girls that are neglected and vulnerable, yet basically honest and lovable:
  • Annie - a complex, tough, streetwise urchin who is surprisingly vulnerable when she thinks she might lose what has become most important to her: her newfound "family." She is motherly, independent, overwhelmed and hopeful.
  • Molly - the youngest orphan, age 6.
  • Kate - the next-to-youngest at age 7.
  • Pepper - the toughest, age 12.
  • July - the quiet orphan, age 13.
  • Duffy - the oldest and “in charge,” age 13.
Aggie Hannigan - a definite "has-been." Her distaste for her job should ooze from every line she delivers.

Rooster Hannigan and Lily St. Regis - the comic team who claim to be Annie's parents but are revealed to be Miss Hannigan's swindling brother (Rooster) and his sleazy girlfriend (Lily) in disguise. These characters play off each other constantly.

Oliver Warbucks -  the daunting, confident millionaire who made his fortune during World War I as an industrialist. In the beginning, Warbucks is awkwardly affectionate toward Annie and then finds himself completely charmed by her.

Grace Farrell - Oliver Warbucks's calm, cool and classy secretary. She appears businesslike when dealing with Miss Hannigan and Warbucks, yet maternal toward Annie. Grace is likable, sweet and confident.

Drake and the Servants - the loyal domestic help of Oliver Warbucks. This group of performers sings with the ensemble and can be double cast as New Yorkers.

President Franklin D. Roosevelt - helps Oliver Warbucks locate Annie’s parents.

The New Yorkers - a colorful collection of characters, usually identified by their occupation. Among many roles are the Apple Seller, Lt. Ward, Bundles, Usherette, Star-to-be, Bert Healy.

His solo concert work includes Bach’s St. John Passion, Haydn’s The Seasons, Liszt’s Missa Solemnis, and a whole plethora of Bach Cantatas. In 2019, he was awarded the Una Creditor Encouragement Award at the Kansas City District Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions, and in 2016 he won his division of the NATS National Student Auditions. Patrick recently completed his Masters Degree in Voice Performance & Literature from The Eastman School of Music and holds a Bachelor's Degree in Voice Performance from the University of Missouri (GO TIGERS).

Lauren Urschel

As a CYT alum, Lauren Urschel is absolutely elated to be able to work at CYTKC this summer! Lauren is excited to be back in the KC area this summer after being at Bradley University in Peoria, IL during the school year, where she is pursuing her Bachelor of Science in Nutrition and Dietetics. During her time at CYT, Lauren was involved in over 25 productions, with some of her favorite roles being Esmeralda in "The Hunchback of Notre Dame," Marian Paroo in "The Music Man," Ariel in "The Little Mermaid," and a Narrator in "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat." Outside of shows, Lauren has been teen assisting at CYT summer camps since she was 12 years old, and has loved every second of it! She is thrilled to be back in the world of theater, and to help campers thrive in a community of people pursuing God through performing.
