Camp Description

Seussical Kids
Ages 8-12
East Location — Community of Christ: July 8-12
For the first time ever, CYT Kansas City is offering a camp which will give campers aged 8-12 the opportunity to perform an actual show! Campers will have the opportunity to audition for roles on the first day of camp and will perform the show on the Friday of camp at the camp location. For campers who want to audition for a role, abbreviated music and script excerpts (“sides”), which are posted on the Full Show Day Camp page of the CYT KC website, to prepare for their auditions and callbacks. You do not have to audition in order to be in this camp; all campers will have the chance to sing, dance, and act their way through this fun, upbeat show! Please note: Auditions and callbacks will be closed. Space is limited, so sign up soon!
Full show day camps meet from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The show will be performed at 5 p.m. on Friday at the same location as the camp.
Seussical Kids Synopsis
Horton the Elephant, the Cat in the Hat and all of your favorite Dr. Seuss characters spring to life onstage in Seussical KIDS, a fantastical musical extravaganza from Tony-winners, Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty (Lucky Stiff, My Favorite Year, Once on This Island, Ragtime). Transporting audiences from the Jungle of Nool to the Circus McGurkus, the Cat in the Hat, our narrator, tells the story of Horton, an elephant who discovers a speck of dust containing tiny people called the Whos, including Jojo, a Who child, who gets in trouble for thinking too many "thinks." Horton's challenge is twofold – not only must he protect the Whos from a world of naysayers and dangers, but he must also guard an abandoned egg that's been left in his care by the irresponsible Mayzie La Bird. Although Horton faces ridicule, danger, kidnapping and a trial, the intrepid Gertrude McFuzz never loses faith in him. Ultimately, the powers of friendship, loyalty, family and community are challenged and emerge triumphant! (courtesy of Music Theatre International).
