Camp Description

Legally Blonde Jr.
Ages 11-14
Overnight Camp: July 22-26 at MNU
Performances: July 26 at 7 p.m. and July 27 at 2 & 7 p.m. at MNU

In addition, we ask that campers make every effort to attend the following dates —
Read Through: June 8 from 2 to 5 p.m.
Costume Parade: July 13 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Legally Blonde Jr. follows the transformation of Elle Woods as she tackles stereotypes, snobbery, and scandal in pursuit of her dreams. When Elle's boyfriend, Warner, dumps her and heads to Harvard, claiming she's not "serious" enough, Elle takes matters into her own hands, crafting a showy song-and-dance personal essay and charming her way into law school. Befriending classmate, Emmett, and spunky hairdresser, Paulette, along the way, Elle finds that books and looks aren't mutually exclusive. As Elle begins outsmarting her peers, she realizes that law may be her natural calling after all. Legally Blonde Jr. features large, energetic dance numbers with an expandable cast of sorority sisters, law school students, hairdressers, and more.

One parent (or adult family representative) of each camper is required to volunteer as part of a Parent Production Team.

PLEASE NOTE: No cell phones or other electronic devices will be allowed at camp.

We will hold auditions for those who would like an opportunity for a role, solo, or featured dancer; however, you do NOT need to audition in order to participate in this camp. Auditions will be held on May 31 from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m., and callbacks will be held on June 1 from 4 to 8 p.m. Both will occur at the CYT Studios (6800 W. 153rd St. Suite A). Students who choose not to audition will be placed in the ensemble.
Those who wish to audition must prepare a one-minute song, be prepared for a short dance audition, and perform a memorized monologue, which is posted on the Middle School Camp page of the CYT KC website. Students are strongly encouraged to provide sheet music to be played by our accompanist. Students should wear jazz shoes and comfortable/modest clothing for their dance audition.
Video Submissions: In person auditions are strongly encouraged for the benefit of both you and our directing teams, however, we understand families sometimes have conflicts with our audition dates. If you would like to submit a video audition, you may film a video of your student singing 60 seconds or less of a song of their choice, performing one of the provided monologues (posted on the Middle School Camp page of the CYT KC website by early April), and dancing 60 seconds or less of a choreographed routine. The dance routine should include at least one turn and a demonstration of your flexibility (i.e. kicks or splits). The audition video should be emailed to no later than May 31 by 12:00 noon.
