Class Description

Find a friend or two, and join this upbeat class! Partner work is an extremely important skill to have in dance and musical theater. It appears in every style of dance, and adds an extra layer of story-telling and expression in a routine. Ensemble work is the same, yet on a grander scale. When watching a group of people move in sync with musicality, it can provoke great emotion in the audience. The beauty of togetherness in dance comes from paying attention to detail, technique, and team work. We will be sampling a few different styles (swing, musical theater, contemporary, etc), and building our stamina together as a team. So grab a partner, and let's get dancing!

Kristen Downing

Kristen originates from the Chicagoland area and grew up in CYT Chicago. Soon after graduating, she worked at Disney World as a character performer. After the magical adventures in Florida, she went back to Chicago to train in improv at the world-renowned Second City. Kristen took her training to Biola University and began a comedy group on campus that still runs to this day. She earned her B.A. in Communication with an emphasis in Speech/Drama and minor in Biblical & Theological Studies from Biola University in 2013. After graduating, Kristen went back to the Chicagoland area and had the wonderful opportunity to choreograph musicals for a couple high schools. Some of which include the following: How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, Xanadu, Mary Poppins, and The Addams Family. Now Kristen is married (to a CYTKC alumnus), and can't wait to meet new students with big dreams!
