Class Description

This is a placement class only. Pre Pointe is an important element to working toward Pointe. Students will develop technique and work toward goals that will continue their technique within the world of ballet. Students are required and continue to work on have proper spine alignment, ankle strength, proper foot-pointing technique, ability to hold turn-out from the hips, a well-elevated releve on demi pointe with straight knees, and correct distribution of body weight both on two legs and on one leg. Pre-Pointe will include exercises in demi pointe to strengthen calf muscles, ankles, and arches of the feet. Exercises will begin at the barre for safety and stability in this class to progress toward the goal of pointe in the future. --

Chelsea Shaffer

Chelsea started dancing at the age of four, competing with various studios until she started training at Studio J School of Dance under the direction of Stephanie Judah and Crysti Miller in Independence, Missouri. She attended many competitions competing in tap, jazz, contemporary, lyrical, hip hop, and musical theatre. During this time Chelsea also trained in ballet 3 times a week and took pointe. She was invited to various dance intensives including GoPro, a pre-professional summer workshop where she was able to take class from renowned choreographers such as Don Mirault, Helene Phillips, and Janet Langer while performing at the Clay Cooper Theatre in Branson, Missouri. She also attended a ballet intensive, Ballet JG, in Chicago directed by Jennifer Grapes. Chelsea recently graduated from the Ann Lacy School of American Dance and Entertainment at Oklahoma City University where she received a Bachelor of Science in Dance Management with a double minor in Business Entrepreneurship and History. She trained in ballet five days a week under Jo Rowan, Kay Sandel, Veronica Wilcox, Jessica Fay, and Ty Love. Chelsea also trained in jazz under Brian Marcum, Alana Martin, Tiffany van der Merwe, Tiffany Warford, Kelli Stevens, and Kari Shaw. And tap training under Diana Brooks, Brian Marcum, Sherri Hayden, Cassandra Mora, Patricia Oplotnik, Kari Shaw, Tiffany Warford, and Aaron Pomeroy. Chelsea hopes to pursue a career traveling the world as a professional dancer. She feels very fortunate to have the opportunity to share her passion for dance with so many young minds and looks forward to the CYT dance season!
