Class Description

This is the perfect class for anyone that wants to learn the fundamentals of musical theater dance. No matter your background, dance is a continuum of learning and every student will progress at a different pace. Class combinations will include select styles (ranging from African, tap, jazz, etc.) and challenge student's mind, body and stamina. Our time together will be filled with conditioning, basic technique, learning choreography quickly and efficiently, and "tips & tricks" for a better, more full performance. The goal of this class is to prepare those for a dance audition/callback and possibly being cast a dancer in the future. Note: Tap shoes are not required.

Kristen Downing

Kristen originates from the Chicagoland area and grew up in CYT Chicago. Soon after graduating, she worked at Disney World as a character performer. After the magical adventures in Florida, she went back to Chicago to train in improv at the world-renowned Second City. Kristen took her training to Biola University and began a comedy group on campus that still runs to this day. She earned her B.A. in Communication with an emphasis in Speech/Drama and minor in Biblical & Theological Studies from Biola University in 2013. After graduating, Kristen went back to the Chicagoland area and had the wonderful opportunity to choreograph musicals for a couple high schools. Some of which include the following: How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, Xanadu, Mary Poppins, and The Addams Family. Now Kristen is married (to a CYTKC alumnus), and can't wait to meet new students with big dreams!
